  3.     I must object to Richard Ostling's skewed reference to the
  4. Rev. Carter Heyward's new book, Touching Our Strength: The
  5. Erotic as Power and the Love of God (RELIGION, Nov. 13). In
  6. quoting Heyward's work out of context, Ostling has trivialized
  7. a serious piece of theological scholarship and social analysis.
  8. Through the experiences of lesbians and gay men, Heyward
  9. addresses a society and culture that exclude and oppress many
  10. people. Her work is built on an understanding that our love of
  11. God and God's love for us are inseparable from our search for
  12. justice through loving relationships with others.
