- LETTERS, Page 6Trivializing Theology
-
- I must object to Richard Ostling's skewed reference to the
- Rev. Carter Heyward's new book, Touching Our Strength: The
- Erotic as Power and the Love of God (RELIGION, Nov. 13). In
- quoting Heyward's work out of context, Ostling has trivialized
- a serious piece of theological scholarship and social analysis.
- Through the experiences of lesbians and gay men, Heyward
- addresses a society and culture that exclude and oppress many
- people. Her work is built on an understanding that our love of
- God and God's love for us are inseparable from our search for
- justice through loving relationships with others.
